Frommer's Northern Italy and Frommer's 2005

Step through the doors of this somewhat plainlooking building between Via Roma and the river and you'll think you're in a English country house. That's the whole idea, and the Anglophile decor works splendidly. The lobby is decorated as a country house drawing room, with floral sofas, deep armchairs, and a view onto a garden; the room doubles as a bar and is an extremely pleasant place to enjoy a drink before setting out for one of the nearby restaurants. The glass-enclosed breakfast room, where a sumptuous buffet is served, resembles a conservatory. The accomodations are classified as deluxe or standard depending on the size and decor. "Standard" guest rooms are handsomely furnished in a chic style that soothingly combines contemporary and traditional styles, with mahogany bedsteads and writing desks and rich fabric wall-coverings and draperies. "Deluxe" accomodations, each with its own distinctive look, are oversized and furnished with carefully chosen antiques and such flourishes as canopied beds and richly covered divans. A major ongoing renovation (expected to be completed in 2005) will add a new breakfast room, garden, garage and swimming pool to the Victoria.

Rare style, attention to detail and confort are the hallmarks of this boutique hotel, furnished and managed to create the feeling of a refined town house. The newer wing has a grand marble staircase and individually decorated rooms. The same attention to details is found in the older rooms, and the sitting room and breakfast room are particularly attractive.

Perhaps the best bargain in town is the Victoria. The 98 rooms are comfortable and pretty, and there is a small, delightful garden just off the area where breakfast is served.

Cadogan - Italian Riviera and Piemonte

Furnished with a delightful hotchpotch of screens, chairs, tables and sofas. Bedrooms are all singular, including one rendered largely in leopard skin. The staff are friendly and helpful. A bright and airy breakfast room overlooks the garden. Excellent Value. Free broadband and bicycles for guests.

It is our favorite for the contry-style comfort of its lobby, filled with fresh flowers and fine prints, antiques mixed with wicker furnishings, and windows overlooking a garden.

Time Out - Turin

Occupying a rather nondescript 1950's building near Piazza S. Carlo, everybody's favourite hotel in Turin has a devoted following and is often fully booked. Inside, it's a cozy homage to slightly dated English chintzyness. In spite of the 100-odd bedrooms, it has the feel of a much smaller hotel. The reception hall and sitting areas on the ground floor include an open fire and a bar, while upstairs the spacious bedrooms (some with four-posters) are individually decorated with flowery wallpapers, floral and striped fabrics, painted friezes and some antique furniture. Top floor rooms have big terraces and impressive mountain views. The sunny breakfast room overlooks a pleasant neighbouring garden. A pool, sauna and Turkish bath should be ready by 2005.

On entre à l'hôtel Victoria, comme on entre chez soi, sans appréhension, avec une grande sérénité. C'est une maison charmante lovée en plain coeur de Turin où vous attendent des hôtes aussi accueillants que discrets. Des couleurs pastel recouvrent les murs et tapissent les sols, apaisent l'atmosphère énergique des affaires qui règne sur la ville. L'hôtel Victoria est un petit bijoux d'élégance et de raffinement. Tout n'est qu'harmonie. De la couleur des tissus aux bouquets de fleurs, des rideaux aux guéridons, des hôtes aux clients... C'est un endroit enchanteur. Le style anglais qui domine dans l'hôtel Victoria lui confère un léger accent romantique qui lui va à ravir. Le hall d'entrée est entièrement décoré de meubles d'époque, de pièces de collections. Les bouquets de fleurs coupées ornent les pièces et les parfument. Une atmosphère paisible et cosy règne sure l'établissement. Dans les pièces, la luminosité de la ville italienne ravive les tableaux anciens. Le jardin d'hiver abrite la salle à manger dont les fenêtres laissent filtrer une lumière digne des tableaux de la Renaissance italienne. La localisation de l'hôtel premet de profiter aisément des lieux culturels et architectoniques de la ville italienne, notamment le dôme de San Giovanni qui abrite la Cappella della Santa Sindone du XVIII siècle, lieu où est conservé le Sainte Suaire, ou encore l'incroyable architecture industrielle du XX siècle, les usines Fiat du Lingotto, véritable cité dans la ville. En plus du raffinement, l'hôtel pratique des prix doux. Les Turinois, eux, accorde au Victoria, un charme élégant plus francais qu'italien.

L'Hôtel Victoria est un hotel qui se découvre. En effet, le batiment ne laisse rien présager des bonnes surprises qui vous attendent. L'hôtel n'a, en effet, de cesse de s'améliorer et les projects sont encore d'actualité. Peut-être parce qu'au départ ce fut un véritable challenge pour M. et Mme Vallinotto que rien ne destinaient à l'hôtellerie, lui professeur d'Université, elle jeune épouse entreprenante... Les taches aujourd'hui encore restent très bien partagées et tout à fait complémentaires. On doit à Anna d'avoir, malgré ses 100 chambres, tout de suite opté pour un hôtel de charme, en personnalisant chacune: retour d'Egypte, romantiques en toile de Jouy ou suite indienne... Certaines peuvent être plus luxueuses mais toutes sont très confortables avec des prestations et un service au delà des étoiles affichées. La salle des petit déjeuners (très copieux) a le charme des jardins d'hiver, le grand salon avec son feu de bois et ses canapés en chintz fleuri, la chaleur anglo-saxonne. C'est l'hôtel de charme de Turin.
